Second Card for Massive Coffee Lovers Blog Hop

While I had all the supplies out from yesterday's card, I decided to make a second one - this time with a tea theme. I added a little checkerboard stencilling. This is a large format card - 5.5 X 8.5 inches. I needed to go big to fit all the stamps in!

Vintage Red Muff

Here is a card I made just by taking an assortment of items and playing around until I got a pleasing composition. It's red and turquoise again. I like the contrast of the black and white girl image (Oxford Impressions) and that red muff.

I put the glitter paper on red cardstock and then started layering ribbon, felt, some vellum and a die cut star doily. Once I knew how it was going to work, I stitched the horizontal elements together and then mounted Miss Red Muff overtop with foam tape. 

The snowflakes are a few Waltzingmouse Stamps die cuts, a plastic button and a felt snowflake freebie from an old magazine.  I like the contrast of the soft felt and the other sturdier shapes. A red heart and red thread help tie it all together.

Scrappy Strips

For the recent marathon of stamping at splitcoaststampers, we were challenged to create a card with strips of paper. I cut these strips from my much-loved October Afternoon Thrift Shop paper pad.  The image is an Oxford Impressions stamp.

Later we were asked to create a tag and I had some leftover strips so decided to use them on this birthday tag. The sentiment stamps are Waltzingmouse stamps. Ric rac seemed an appropriate trim.  Nice to get more mileage out of that paper!

All Tomorrows...

This card is a favourite of mine from the Splitcoaststampers marathon. It came together very organically with little forethought - just grabbing what was at hand and going with it.

The background is complex. It started out with some Tim Holtz kraft resist papers. I added some Distress Stains and stamped a Stampington collage cube damask pattern on top with archival ink. The Stampin' Up! sunflower is stamped with dye inks and cut out and popped on top. The sentiment is an Oxford Impressions stamp.

Irresistable Kraft Paper

How many of you have a pad of Tim Holtz Idea-ology Paper Stash Kraft Resist paper and have never done anything with it? I suspect there are quite a few as a Google search for images using this paper comes up pretty lean. Here is the pad I own:

I used a sheet of the ledger style paper to create my own feature sheet of paper for a coffee and tea themed card. The paper has numbers and lines that resist inks, providing a bit of a ghostly effect that I found impossible to capture in a photo.

I used Distress Stains and Distress Inks to colour swaths of the paper in a vertical fashion. I overstamped with a lot of stamps in the theme (I have quite a collection). Most of the stamps are from Oxford Impressions and Stampington & Company. I used a Stampington leaf stamp, embossing in gold, to provide another layer of interest to the card. 

Four brads and a navy border were all it seemed to want to finish this 9 X 4 inch card. It's a thank you card for a man, so I resisted (ha!) the urge to pretty it up. I have plenty of this customized paper left over to make a few other cards, and looked forward to working with the other sheets in the pack.

Dancers in Love

Here's a romantic one layer card I created for a former ballerina and her beau for their engagement party. I started with white cardstock and stamped the Hero Arts Italian Poetry, the solid Always heart and the "love" flourish in Antique Linen Distress Ink. Then I heavily distressed the edges with the same ink.

 

I added the chandelier (a freebie stamp from the UK Magazine Craft Stamper) and the dancers (an Oxford Impressions stamp) in Versafine Onyx Black. Three black pearls completed the ensemble.  I am sorry the scan quality isn't that great, but it was a rush job and was whisked off to the party before I could get camera shots.

Compendium of Curiosities Challenge 31

This week it's Rusted Enamel. I followed Tim's directions to create the background for my tag, but I think I need to practice more. The embellishment (above) was some silver Hodge Podge Hardware from Stampin Up! that I colourized with alcohol inks; I smashed the brad heads a la Tim. I stamped the postmark (Stampington & Company) twice, once on acetate and once on cardstock. I like the depth it provides. The passport image is from Oxford Impressions. I added some pen stitching to Tim Holtz's Tissue Tape.

Mojo Monday 136 Vintage

There is a wildly popular blog that posts a sketch challenge each Monday, called Mojo Monday. This is my first time playing along. MOJO136 provided a choice of round or square formats. I say it's hip to be square!

The papers are K&Company, the millinery ribbon is olive shot with gold, the lady is from Oxford Impression's The Art of Being Beautiful plate, and the frame around her and the sentiment are from Waltzingmouse Stamps. I used Spellbinders Nestabilities Circles and Scalloped Circles to cut out this framed beauty. I distressed the scalloped border and torn paper strip with Barn Door Distress Ink.

I found it quite challenging to follow a sketch, but it is good to be challenged sometimes! Thanks for stopping by to see.
